Marie was the youngest daughter of Prince Friedrich Heinrich von Orange and his wife, Countess Amalie zu Solms-Braunfels . Her father, who was very old when she was born, died when Marie was four years old.

In 1660 negotiations began to marry the princess, who was an aunt of the future English king Wilhelm III. was, with King Charles II of England . However, he married a princess from Portugal , who was at war with Spain at this time. A year later, also unsuccessfully, a marriage with Prince Johann Moritz von Nassau-Siegen was discussed.

On September 23, 1666 she married in Kleve eventually Pfalzgraf Ludwig Heinrich Moritz von Simmern (1640-1674), son of Louis Philip of Pfalz-Simmern and a grandson to her aunt Countess Louise Juliana of Nassau . As with her sisters, the marriage was supposed to tie the family network of the Calvinist imperial princes closer. On the occasion of this family reunification, the famous Jan Mijtens painting of the daughters of Friedrich Heinrich of Orange was created before Kleve.

Like her sisters Luise Henriette with Oranienburg , Albertine Agnes with Oranienstein , Henriette Catharina with Oranienbaum , Marie also had her widow's residence near Kreuznach, the former Pfalz-Simmerer Fürstenhof in Neustadt , converted into a " Schloss Oranienhof " around 1669 . However, this was destroyed again in 1689.

The 8-year marriage of Marie's remained childless and with the death of her husband the Simmern-Kaiserslautern line expired. Marie was in lively correspondence with her two remaining sisters. She died of pneumonia in 1688 after being sick for six days.
