Alberto Cardinal Suárez Inda (born January 30, 1939 in Celaya , Mexico ) is a Mexican clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Morelia .

Life

Alberto Suárez Inda studied in the seminary of Morelia from 1953 and went to Rome in 1958 to continue his studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University . Finally, on August 8, 1964, received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Morelia . Since 1973 he belonged to the clergy of the newly created diocese of Celaya .

November 5, 1985 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the Bishops of Tacámbaro . The Apostolic Nuncio in Mexico, Archbishop Girolamo Prigione , donated him episcopal ordination on December 20 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Morelia, Estanislao Alcaraz y Figueroa , and the Coadjutor Bishop of Torreón , Luis Morales Reyes .

On January 20, 1995, John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Morelia. The inauguration took place on February 24, 1995. In 2004 Suárez became Vice President of the Mexican Bishops' Conference , which he remained until 2009.

In the solemn consistory of February 14, 2015, Pope Francis accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Policarpo in the college of cardinals . Cardinal Suárez Inda was a member of the 14th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in October 2015. On November 5, 2016, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation from the office of Archbishop of Morelia.
