history

The diocese of Ciudad Lázaro Cárdenas was established on October 11, 1985 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Cum probe from cedings of the dioceses of Apatzingán and Ciudad Altamirano and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Acapulco as a suffragan diocese.

On November 25, 2006, the diocese Ciudad Lázaro Cárdenas was by Pope Benedict XVI. Subordinated to the Archdiocese of Morelia as a suffragan with the Apostolic Constitution Mexicani populi .
