Career

He began his professional career in 1989 and won 36 out of 40 fights in his build-up phase, 28 of them prematurely, with three defeats and one draw. In April 1996 he defeated the British Eamonn Loughran (26-1, 15 prematurely) in Liverpool by tKo in the first round in the fight for the WBO world title . In his first title defense he was able to defeat Luis Ramón Campas (64-1, 56 K. o.) In October 1996 . Then he put down the title and defeated the former world champion Jorge Vaca in March 1997 by tKo in the sixth round. After a subsequent points win against Aaron Davis (43-5), he boxed for the WBA World Championship title against Ike Quartey (34-0, 30 prematurely) in October 1997 , but only reached a draw. In the course of the fight he had also managed to knock down two times.

With three subsequent victories, including a tKo victory in the second round against ex-world champion Sammy Fuentes , he received another WBA World Cup chance, but this time lost on points against James Page (22-3). However, he also had this opponent on the ground twice. After nine more fights, he ended his career in December 2010.
