Atlante de la Universidad Tecnológico de Neza , abbreviated to Atlante UTN or Potros Neza , is a Mexican football club from the city of Nezahualcóyotl in the state of México , which borders Mexico City to the east .

history

First stage

After the end of season 1987/88 the since 1978 in the first division of Mexico playing club Deportivo Neza his eligibility to the Correcaminos UAT had sold, the city Nezahualcoyotl was left without a professional football club. A new association called Potros Neza was therefore immediately founded. The club started instead of the previous second division UAT Correcaminos in the second division and immediately won the championship, which made him athletically qualified for the first division. But immediately after the promotion, the first division license was sold to CD Veracruz , so that the club from the port city took its place in the Primera División and the Potros disappeared again from the soccer map of Mexico after only one year.

Second stage

The revival of the club took place before the 2004/05 season under the name Atlante Potros Neza . The CF Atlante, who until now had always been a guest at one of the big clubs in Mexico City and therefore played sometimes in the Aztec stadium of Club America and sometimes in the Estadio Azul of the CD Cruz Azul , had the majority of their home games in the two previous seasons of the Primera División held at the local Estadio Neza 86 . After his retreat to the neighboring capital at the beginning of the 2004/05 season , he obviously wanted to compensate his backward fans in the satellite town in the way that he started a B team in the then second-rate Primera División 'A' , which was given the aforementioned name and played his home games in the abandoned stadium in Nezahualcóyotl. The adventure ended again after only one season because the second division license was sold to Tampico-Madero FC at the end of the season .

Third stage

In the summer of 2008, when Atlante was already based in Cancún , its owner, Grupo Pegaso , created a new farm team as a base for the first division team. This new team started in the 2008/09 season under the name Potros Chetumal in the Primera División 'A'. At the end of the season, Grupo Pegaso transferred the team from Chetumal to Nezahualcóyotl, where they played in the newly created Liga de Ascenso in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons under the name Potros Neza and Atlante UTN .
