Alexander Kamillowitsch Frautschi

Alexander Kamillowitsch Frautschi ( Russian Александр Камиллович Фраучи ; born January 4, 1954 in Rostov , † June 2, 2008 in Moscow ) was a Russian classical guitarist and one of the most famous Russian musicians in this field. Frautschi was the first Russian guitarist to have an international breakthrough. He played on tours beyond the "Iron Curtain" and won several international prizes.

Life

Frautschi was born in 1954 in the Soviet Union as the son of the guitar teacher Kamill Frautschi (1923–1997) . He comes from a Swiss immigrant family. His grandfather was killed in the course of the Stalin purges . Frautschi was first trained on the violin from his father. From 1969 to 1973 he studied guitar with Alexander Iwanow-Kramskoi and his daughter Natalia Iwanowa-Kramskaja at the Moscow Conservatory . From 1974 to 1979 he studied with VW Derum at the Mussorgsky Conservatory in Sverdlovsk .

He has performed as a soloist in Belgium , Bulgaria , France , Italy , Yugoslavia , the Czech Republic , Hungary , the United Kingdom , Austria , Germany , Turkey , Greece , the United States , Poland and Cuba . Frautschi won several international awards and his name was included in the Great Soviet Encyclopedia .

From 1980 he was a lecturer and later professor at the Gnessin Institute in Moscow . In Moscow, Vilnius, Nizhny Novgorod, Saratov, Kharkiv, Minsk, Rostov-on-Don and Kaliningrad, he promoted the establishment of guitar classes. His students include Nikita Koschkin , Jewgeni Finkelstein , Dmitri Illarionow and Oleksandr Rengatsch . He directed the international guitar festival Alexander Frautchi Invites to Russia . He was also President of the Classical Guitar Association of the Soviet Union.

The opening of the 4th International Festival of Guitar Virtuosos in the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow took place in honor of Frautschi.
