The 1985 CONCACAF Nations Cup was the ninth game of the continental football championship for North Central America and the Caribbean and took place from August 11th to September 14th. For the first time, the competition was held in home and return legs without a host country and was also considered a qualification for the World Cup for the fourth time in a row .
Canada qualified for a World Cup for the first time. Mexico did not take part in this tournament because, as the host of the 1986 World Cup, it was automatically qualified for it.

Guatemala received a bye. All other 16 teams played eight winners in the first knockout round in both legs. They formed three groups of three with Guatemala, the top three progressed.
