Juan Ramón Barrera Pérez (born May 2, 1989 in Ocotal ) is a Nicaraguan football player .

Career

society

Barrera started his career at Real Estelí. After spending three years with Walter Ferretti, he moved to Panama for Tauro FC in 2011 . In 2012 he returned to Estelí. In January 2013 he moved to Venezuela on loan to Deportivo Petare for half a year . In 2015 he moved to Austria to SCR Altach . This makes him the first Nicaraguan to receive a professional contract in Europe . On December 16, 2015, the contract was terminated at Barrera's request. A week later he was signed by the Guatemalan CSD Comunicaciones club .

In January 2018 he moved to Venezuela for a second time, where he joined Metropolitanos FC .

National team

Barrera made his debut on January 22, 2009 in a 1-1 draw against El Salvador for the Nicaraguan national football team . He scored his first international goal four days later in a 1-1 draw against Belize . Since then he has been one of the regular members of the Nicaragua national soccer team. In the World Cup qualifier against Anguilla on March 29, 2015, he led his national team onto the pitch as captain for the first time. As a result, he became a regular captain. In the election for FIFA World Player of the Year 2019 , Barrera caused a sensation when he announced on Twitter that he had not personally participated in the election, even though his name was among the voting papers. The Nicaraguan Football Association declared this to be an "administrative error"; Actually, the deputy captain Manuel Rosas chose and Barrera's name only appeared inadvertently.
