The Digicel Caribbean Cup 2008 was the 14th game of the soccer Caribbean championship . The competition began with the first round of qualification on July 27, 2008. The final round took place from November 3 to December 14, 2008 in Jamaica. The games were played at National Stadium Independence Park in Kingston , Jarett Park in Montego Bay and Greenfield Stadium in Trelawny Parish . The name sponsor of the tournament was the telecommunications company Digicel , based in Jamaica.

The four best teams in this tournament took part in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup . In addition to the winner Jamaica , these were Grenada , Guadeloupe and Cuba .

qualification

A total of 23 teams had registered for the competition. Defending champions Haiti and hosts Jamaica were seeded for the finals without qualifying. All were members of the Caribbean Football Union , a regional subsidiary of CONCACAF .

The Bahamas , Dominican Republic , Montserrat , Puerto Rico , Turks and Caicos Islands , the US Virgin Islands, and St. Lucia did not participate.

French Guiana and Sint Maarten withdrew shortly before the start of the qualification, so that ultimately 16 teams competed in the first and three more in the second round of qualification.

1 round

The first round of qualification consisted of five groups. The first in the group and the four best runners-up qualify for the second round.

All games took place at the Ergilio Hato stadium in Willemstad on Curaçao .
