The Stade Louis Achille is a sports stadium in Fort-de-France on to France belonging Caribbean island of Martinique . It is mainly used for soccer and athletics .

It was Martinique's main stadium until the Stade Georges Gratiant opened in 1988 and the Stade Pierre Aliker in 1993 . The Good Luck de Fort-de-France club plays its games here, as do various national teams from the Martinique LFM Football Association . All Group E games of the first qualifying round for the 2008 Caribbean Football Championship took place here.

history

In 1923, the local council of Fort-de-France and the management of the USMSA athletics association decided to build a sports facility in the Bellevue district. General Secretary Félix Éboué was particularly committed to the construction and it made notable progress. In 1937 it could finally be officially opened. In 1947 the sports complex included a football field measuring 110 × 75 m, a basketball court and a riding facility. The stadium had space for 6,000 people; there were 900 seats.

In 1950, the stadium was named after Louis Achille, a local high school history and English teacher and former president of the USMSA.

In 1970, FC Santos and Pelé were guests at the Stade Louis Achille. They beat the Martinique national football team 4-1.

The Stade Louis Achille is a sports complex with competition and training facilities for football , athletics , handball , volleyball and basketball .

In 2007 the Martinique General Council decided to undertake a major renovation. € 1,557,000 was made available for this.
