Orlando Smeekes (born December 28, 1981 in Amsterdam , the Netherlands ) is a former Dutch football player and today's kickboxer .

Career

In the club

Smeekes played in his youth for the Flevo Boys and the Dutch honorary division SC Heerenveen .

In 2000 he moved to the second division of the Netherlands to Stormvogels Telstar . There he came to 50 missions (10 goals) by 2003 and went to league rivals FC Volendam in 2003 . After a season in which he only made two appearances, the attacker switched to TOP Oss , for whom he played 26 times in 2004/05 (2 goals). 2005-2007 Smeekes played then at Helmond Sport (48 missions, 9 goals) and 2007/08 in the Go Ahead Eagles (23 inserts, 5 goals), before the summer of 2008 by Germany , the third division side Stuttgarter Kickers changed. Smeekes made 29 appearances (4 goals) for the Swabian club.

For the 2009/10 season he moved to FC Carl Zeiss Jena , where he signed a two-year contract. On the first day of the 2009/10 season Smeekes scored the goal of the month with a free kick from 35 meters . For the 2011/12 season Orlando Smeekes moved to league rivals SV Wehen Wiesbaden , where he signed a contract until 2013.

For the 2012/13 season Smeekes moved together with Delron Buckley to South Africa to Maritzburg United under coach Ernst Middendorp . After 35 league games and five goals in South Africa, his contract was not renewed in the summer of 2014. After a short period of non-membership, he returned to his home in the Netherlands in October 2014, where he let his active career end with lower-class clubs. Smeekes ended his active career in the summer of 2018.

In the national team

Smeekes played four times in 2008 for the national soccer team of the Netherlands Antilles , the first time on February 6, 2008 in the away game in the qualification for the 2010 World Cup against Nicaragua . After the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles on October 10, 2010, Smeekes has since played for the national soccer team of Curaçao . He played his first international game on October 8, 2011 in the home game in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup against Antigua and Barbuda . Another international match against Haiti followed in November 2011.

Personal

Since his retirement in 2018, he worked as a personal trainer for Fit For Free in the Amsterdam Arena . Smeeke's ancestors come from Willemstad on Curaçao .

Kickboxing

In October 2019 Smeekes announced that he will be a kickboxer and completed his first fight against the Hungarian Tamas Kossenberg as part of the Rings Gala in Amstelveen on October 5th in the Emergohal Sporthal.
