Delron Sebastian Buckley (born December 7, 1977 in Durban ) is a former South African football player who also has German citizenship .

Career

Club level

Delron Buckley started playing football with the Butcherfille Rovers Durban . At the age of 17 he moved to VfL Bochum , which he left in 2004 to join Arminia Bielefeld . There he played an excellent season. After just one year, he moved to Borussia Dortmund on July 1, 2005 . There he could not meet the demands and was therefore loaned to FC Basel for the 2006/07 season. He made his team debut on September 10, 2006 in a 2-1 home win against FC Zurich in St. Jakob-Park in front of 19,987 spectators. After the season, FC Basel did not use the purchase option, so Buckley returned to BVB, where he was also used regularly in the following.

With Borussia Dortmund he reached the DFB Cup final in Berlin on April 19, 2008 , which the team lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich . Buckley scored his first competitive goal for BVB on the 33rd matchday of the 2007/08 season in the away game at Arminia Bielefeld . There he managed to equalize to 1: 1. At the end of the winter break of the 2008/09 season, Buckley moved to 1. FSV Mainz 05 for half a year . He then worked for Anorthosis Famagusta in Cyprus, where he received no more contract for the 2010/11 season. During the 2010/11 winter break, Buckley signed a contract with Karlsruher SC dated until the end of the season , which he extended for another year after the season. After relegation with Karlsruher SC from the 2nd Bundesliga in 2011/12 , Buckley left the club and signed a contract with Maritzburg United in South Africa in June 2012 . He has been without a club since summer 2014.

National team

For the South African national football team Buckley was at the 1998 World Cup , in the 2002 World Cup and the African Nations Cup 2004 active in Tunisia. In 2007 he was called back to the South African national football team for the test match against Scotland after a long period of abstinence. Buckley was not nominated for the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa. On November 14, 2012 Buckley came in the 0-1 defeat in the international game against Zambia used.

Delron Buckley is married and has three daughters (* 2004, * 2007, * 2011).
