Rolf Kalich

Rolf Kalich (* 1949 ) is a former German fencing coach .

Kalich was the coach of the GDR national team in the 1980s . After the fall of the Wall, he coached the Swiss national team from 1992 and led them to the top of the world. Under his leadership, Switzerland won two silver medals at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney ( Gianna Hablützel-Bürki and women's national team) and four years later in Athens gold from Marcel Fischer . After the 2008 Beijing Games, Kalich retired.

Because of his achievements, Kalich was voted Swiss Trainer of the Year in 2004. At the end of October 2008 he received the Golden Order of Merit for his life's work from the World Fencing Federation .
