Nol de Ruiter (born April 6, 1940 in Utrecht ) is a former Dutch football player and coach.
Player career
De Ruiter was an amateur footballer with DOS , Velox and USV Elinkwijk . These three clubs later merged to form FC Utrecht .
Coaching career
De Ruiter's coaching career began in 1974 at FC Den Bosch . With the club he played two years in the Eerste Divisie before moving to league competitor SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden in 1976 . But as in Den Bosch, there was no success here either. Best placement in the second division was 1979/80 when fifth place was reached. Then de Ruiter led the fortunes of FC Wageningen . After two years there, the end followed. The football coach took a break between 1982 and 1984. Finally, FC Utrecht signed him in 1984. With the Utrechtians, de Ruiter mostly played in the middle of the table. Sixth place in 1986/87 was the best positioning under his direction. After leaving FCU , the coach took a three-year break. Finally, in 1990, he was suddenly employed by the KNVB as bond coach in the Netherlands . He took over this job from Thijs Libregts as an interim trainer . After two games, in which one game was lost and one game was won, de Ruiter was replaced by Leo Beenhakker , who led the team to the 1990 World Cup. In 1992, de Ruiter took over a head coach again at ADO Den Haag . Under his direction the immediate ascent should succeed. But after eighth and seventh place in the Eerste Divisie, the paths between coach and club parted again after two years. Between 1994 and 1995 he briefly coached the Egyptian national team . After de Ruiter refused to coach his team at a game in Algeria in January 1995 because of domestic political problems, he was dismissed. Finally, de Ruiter returned to FC Utrecht for a year in 1995/96. This was his last coaching position so far.
