Soesterberg is a city in the Dutch province of Utrecht .

It belongs to the municipality of Soest and is located about five kilometers northeast of Zeist , on the way between Amersfoort and Utrecht. In 2017 Soesterberg had 6,470 inhabitants.

Between 1954 and 1994, the local Soesterberg military airfield was used by NATO as a base for the US Air Force (Soesterberg Air Base). During this time, many American families lived in the village of Soesterberg. The Dutch military aviation began here in 1913, it ended in 2008 after withdrawal of the last helicopter .

On December 11, 2014, the newly built National Military Museum was opened in Soesterberg . It brings together the collections of the Militaire Luchtvaart Museum and the Koninklijk Nederlands Legermuseum , previously located in Delft .
