On his debut on March 27, 1996, there was a 2-0 win against Hungary . Although the defender also took part in the 1-0 victory over Sweden in the 1998 World Cup qualifying, he did not take part in the 1998 World Cup in France for Austria. After the successful 1996 season, Michi Hatz made the leap to Italy to AC Reggiana and after only one season moved to US Lecce , but soon returned to Hütteldorf. At the end of his career, the defender played in the Bundesliga for VfB Admira Wacker Mödling , whom he also led as captain at times.

After the sports career
