Coaching career

After Apolloni had worked as an assistant coach at FC Modena for some time , he took over the position of head coach at Modena for the first time in January 2009. Originally planned as an interim solution, he and the team made it to the league in Serie B on the last day of the 2008/09 season . With a 1-0 away win at US Triestina , FC Modena managed to jump to the non-relegation places and stay in the second highest division thanks to a simultaneous defeat by Rimini Calcio (0-2 at AS Cittadella ). In the following year he managed to stay with the club, at the end of the season Modena remained three points above the relegation ranks with 54 points.

In July 2010 he left the club and was introduced shortly thereafter as the new head coach of league rivals US Grosseto . In September he was released from the US Grosseto. Towards the end of the following season he was signed in April 2012 by AS Gubbio 1910 , which took part in Serie B for the first time since 1947, as the fourth coach of the season, but could not prevent relegation to the Lega Pro Prima Divisione .

A year later, Apolloni came to the Slovenian first division club ND Gorica , his first position at a first-class club, and during his one-year commitment from 2013 to 2014 he won a cup and thus participated in the Europa League qualification. For the 2015/16 season, Apolloni took over his former club Parma Calcio , the former AC Parma, which had previously been relegated from Serie A and entered the amateur division as a result of insolvency in Serie D. There he won the regional group championship in 2016 with a 17 point lead and thus promoted to the Lega Pro .
