He was part of the AC Turin team, which surprisingly won the Italian championship in 1976 and continued to play, for example, for AC Florence , SSC Napoli and FC Bologna . Furthermore, Pucci took part with the Italian national soccer team at the soccer world championship 1978 in Argentina .

Career

Club career

Eraldo Pecci, born in 1955 in the Emilian city of San Giovanni in Marignano, began playing football at FC Bologna . After going through the youth departments there, Pucci, who played in the position of midfielder, was part of the first division team of the former Italian champions from 1973. In his first season as a professional Eraldo Pecci won his first important title when in the final of the Coppa Italia the US Palermo was defeated 5: 4 on penalties - after extra time it had been 1: 1. Pecci converted the last penalty kick for his club before Palermo's Erminio Favalli missed decisively.

Pecci stayed with FC Bologna until the summer of 1975, but no further great successes were recorded. For the 1975/76 season he accepted an offer from AC Turin . Trained by Luigi Radice and with players such as Francesco Graziani , Renato Zaccarelli and Paolino Pulici , Torino managed a surprise in Serie A in 1975/76 . With two points ahead of local rivals Juventus Turin they took first place in the final table and thus secured their first championship title since the end of Grande Torino with the plane crash of Superga in 1949. Eraldo Pecci was eligible to participate with AC Turin with the championship title European Champion's Cup 1976/77 , where they failed in the second round against the German representative Borussia Mönchengladbach . There were also no further successes at the national level. After a second place was taken again in 1976/77 , they settled in the upper midfield in the following years, in Pecci's last season at the Stadio Comunale they only came in ninth. After the end of the 1980/81 season , Eraldo Pecci left the club, which had now been renamed Torino Calcio , and went to Fiorentina together with his old teammate Francesco Graziani .

Eraldo Pecci spent four years at Fiorentina without major titles. After he narrowly missed the championship title in Serie A in 1981/82 in his first year in Florence , just one point behind Juventus Turin, the team's performance went downhill. Always one of the favorites for the title, in the following seasons only placements in the upper midfield were achieved and there were no great successes in the Coppa Italia either. Finally Eraldo Pecci changed in 1985 again the club and joined the 138 league games for Fiorentina to Napoli on.

In the up-and-coming team around Diego Maradona Eraldo Pecci played one season and came in the series A 1985/86 to 24 league games with one goal for the team of coach Ottavio Bianchi . He helped Napoli to reach third place in the table. After the season, however, Pecci and SSC Napoli parted ways again. While the SSC was crowned champions in 1987, led by Maradona, Pecci went back to his hometown club FC Bologna, which had meanwhile disappeared in the lowlands of Serie B. After a midfield rank in 1986/87, Pecci managed to return to Serie A with Bologna in the 1987/88 season . With 14th place in Serie A in 1988/89 , the league was also very close. Then Pecci left Bologna again and went for a year to the traditional club Lanerossi Vicenza , which has now been relegated to the third division , where he let his career end with two final third division games.

National team

Between 1975 and 1978 it brought Eraldo Pecci to a total of six international matches for the Italian national soccer team , whereby he did not succeed in scoring. He was appointed to the Italian squad for the 1978 World Cup in Argentina by national coach Enzo Bearzot . However, he was not taken into account in the course of the tournament. The Italian team was quite successful at the World Championships in South America and finished fourth after losing to the Brazilian selection in the game for third place .
