Renato Zaccarelli (born January 18, 1951 in Ancona ) is a former Italian football player and football coach .

Career

Zaccarelli began his career in the youth team of AC Turin . In 1968 he came to Catania Calcio on loan , where he was deployed twice. A year later he came back to Turin , but was never used there in two years. Then he tried a year at Novara Calcio and then a year at Hellas Verona , where he was positively noticed by the club officials of AC Turin and he moved back to his home club in 1974. In a total of 13 years at AC Turin, Zaccarelli won the Italian championship title in 1976. In 1986 he was named Italy's Player of the Year. He ended his career in 1987.

Internationally, the midfielder played 25 times for Italy and scored two goals. He took part in the Football World Cup in Argentina in 1978 and was fourth with the Squadra Azzurra . Zaccarelli was used five times at this World Cup and scored the winning goal in the 2-1 win over France in the first group game to make it 2-1. He also took part in the 1980 European Championship in his home country, where he was able to achieve fourth place.

Coaching career

After his playing career, Zaccarelli took over the Italian U-21 team for a few years. In 2003 he took over the coaching position at AC Turin and was the club's coach until 2005. He then became sports director at FC Bologna , which Zaccarelli currently holds.
