Silvio Baldini (born September 11, 1958 in Massa ) is an Italian football coach .

Career

Baldini began his coaching career in 1984 at the age of 26 with Bagnone , an amateur club that he led to promotion in his first year. In 1988 he became an assistant coach at SSD Massese . In 1989 he became head coach at USD Forte dei Marmi , with whom he was able to celebrate promotion in 1991. After he had coached FC Esperia Viareggio for one season , he acquired the A license , which entitled him to train professional teams, but in 1992 he first coached the amateur club SSD Massese again, this time as head coach. He then trained AC Siena , Carrarese Calcio , AC Chievo Verona and Brescia Calcio .

In 1999 Baldini became head coach at FC Empoli , rose to Serie A with the club in 2002 and achieved a respectable 12th place there. In 2003 he was coach of the Sicilian club US Palermo , which he should lead to promotion to Serie A, which he did not succeed, so he was dismissed in January 2004. He then coached various clubs in Italy with moderate success. In the meantime he worked as an expert for the sports broadcaster Sportitalia , most recently he coached Vicenza Calcio .

Trivia

  • On August 26, 2007 a scandal broke out during a league game: Baldini kicked Domenico Di Carlo , then coach of FC Parma, in his buttocks after a dispute. Baldini was then banished to the stands for a month.
