Lucidio Sentimenti , also briefly Sentimenti IV in Italy (born July 1, 1920 in Bomporto (MO) ; † November 28, 2014 in Turin ), was an Italian football player .

In his active career he mostly played as a goalkeeper for Juventus Turin and Lazio Rome, among others . Sentimenti IV, called "Cochi", also acted as a field player and even scored a few hits.

Career

Lucidio Sentimenti was at 1.70 m tall for a goalkeeper, but he had excellent athleticism, great reflexes and was famous for his courage and control of the penalty area.

Sentimenti comes from one of the largest footballing families in Italy. His brothers Ennio (I) , Arnaldo (II) , Vittorio (III) and Primo (V) also played in the Serie A and were therefore, for simplicity, usually only briefly Sentimenti I to V called.

In the club

After he made his Serie A debut for his hometown club FC Modena in the 1938/39 season and played a total of four seasons with the Emilian club, Sentimenti moved to Juventus Turin in 1942 .

After only one season in the dress of the bianconeri for Sentimenti IV, the Italian football championship was suspended due to the Second World War . In the 1944 war championship, the versatile Sentimenti was used as a right winger due to a broken finger and scored one goal each against AC Asti and Varese FC , and against AS Casale he even managed a brace. In the 1945/46 season, when Serie A resumed, Sentimenti went down in the history of Italian football with his penalty hit against Atalanta Bergamo as the first goalkeeper to score in a Serie A game.

After he had developed into a leading player at Juventus in the post-war years, Sentimenti IV moved to Lazio Rome in 1949 and also became one of the symbolic figures of the post-war period. At Lazio he also played with his brothers Vittorio and Primo .

In 1954 Lucidio Sentimenti left Lazio for Lanerossi Vicenza , where he played until 1957. Then he ran up to 1960 for the lower-class club Cenisia Turin, in the 1958/59 season he played for a short time for AC Turin , which was called Talmone Turin at that time .

In the national team

Lucidio Sentimenti completed a total of nine international matches for the Italian national team between 1945 and 1953 . In the memorable encounter against Hungary on May 11, 1947, he was the only Italian on the field who was not a member of the Grande Torino .

Personal

Because Sentimenti, known as an excellent penalty taker , was able to convert a penalty against his brother Arnaldo for FC Modena in the game against SSC Napoli in 1942 , he did not exchange a word with him for two years. It was only on the father's initiative that the two reconciled.
