Bomporto is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 10,199 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Modena in Emilia-Romagna . The municipality is located about 12.5 kilometers northeast of Modena on the Panaro , a few kilometers to the west the Secchia flows .

Due to the important Abbey of Nonantola, the history of the place, especially of the district of Sobara, goes back to the 10th century.
