Montese is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 3286 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Modena in Emilia-Romagna .
geography
The municipality is located about 41.5 kilometers south of Modena in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines at an altitude of 842 m slm Montese borders directly on the metropolitan city of Bologna . The Panaro River forms the north-western boundary of the municipality.
history
On April 17, 1945, during the Allied Forces' spring offensive in Italy , troops of the Brazilian Expeditionary Corps were able to liberate the community of the Goths from the German occupation. Near Fortaleza (state of Ceará ) there is a place named after Montese in memory of this event.
