Pievepelago is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 2299 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Modena in Emilia-Romagna . The municipality is located about 54 kilometers south-southwest of Modena and borders directly on the province of Lucca ( Tuscany ). Pievepelago belongs to the Comunità Montana del Frignano and is part of the Parco regional dell'Alto Appennino Modenese . The mountains Monte Giovo (1991 meters) and Monte Rondinaio (1964 meters) rise in the municipality . There are several lakes in the municipality.

The community was first mentioned in a document in 753 and later again in 1038.
