Palagano is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 2076 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Modena in Emilia-Romagna . The municipality is located about 42 kilometers south-southwest of Modena and borders directly on the province of Reggio Emilia . Palagano is part of the Unione di Comuni Montani Valli Dolo, Dragone e Secchia . Here the Dragone flows into the Secchia .

During the Second World War , the Wehrmacht carried out the Monchio massacre on March 18, 1944, in Monchio, a faction of the municipality of Palagano , in which numerous innocent civilians were shot.
