Spilamberto is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 12,826 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Modena in Emilia-Romagna . The municipality is located about 13 kilometers southeast of Modena and about 26 kilometers west of Bologna on the Panaro .
history
In the first documents about the place from the 11th and 12th centuries (1026 and 1162) the settlement is mentioned as Spinalamberti . In 1210 the rule of Modena had the fortifications built in Spinalamberti . The place was then divided due to a dispute between the Bishop of Modena and the Abbey of Nonantola in 1214. Whether Spilamberto or San Cesario sul Panaro the place of death of Pope Hadrian III. was in September 885 is not entirely clear.
Economy and Transport
In addition to the well-known Aceto balsamico Tradizionale di Modena, Nocino , a liqueur, is also produced.
Spilamberto is about three kilometers south of the A1 autostrada coming from Milan via Bologna to Florence and Rome .
