Concordia sulla Secchia is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 8302 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Modena in Emilia-Romagna . The municipality is located about 31 kilometers north-northeast of Modena on the Secchia , a small tributary of the Po . Concordia sulla Secchia borders directly on the province of Mantua ( Lombardy ). The municipality was part of the Unione dei comuni modenesi dell'Area Nord .
history
Since the beginning of the 14th century, Concordia sulla Secchia was under the rule of the nobles Mirandolas, a few kilometers east of Concordia. The Pico family determined events in and around Concordia for several centuries. In 1510 Concordia was destroyed by the troops of Pope Julius II .
On May 29, 2012, the place was hit by a severe earthquake. It partially destroyed the church, as well as the town hall and all historical buildings in the center.
