Castelvetro di Modena is an Italian commune ( comune ) in the province of Modena in Emilia-Romagna . The municipality is located about 15 kilometers south of Modena and about 32 kilometers west of Bologna .

Castelvertro is particularly well-known as the growing area for Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro rosso , a Lambrusco that is protected under its Designation of Origin (DOC). The balsamic vinegar from the province of Modena, which is protected by competition law, is also produced here.

In 1984, Castelvetro di Modena maintains an intra-Italian partnership with the municipality of Castelfidardo in the province of Ancona and, since 2002, a partnership with the French municipality of Montlouis-sur-Loire in the Indre-et-Loire department .
