In the second half of the season Tonge was awarded to Derby County , where he scored his first goal on March 6, 2010 against Watford FC . Nevertheless, he was awarded a short time later again to Preston, where he was able to score his first goal on December 4, 2010 against Cardiff City .

In the 2012/13 season, his former coach Neil Warnock became aware of him from common Sheffield times. He was able to arrange a loan deal with Stoke, so that Tongue can now contribute to Leeds United FC 's goal of the season, promotion to the top division. In the winter of 2013, the loan business was expanded into a permanent contract.
