Patrick Mouaya (born July 6, 1985 in Brazzaville , People's Republic of Congo ) is a German football player of Congolese origin.

Career

Mouaya was born in the People's Republic of the Congo (today: Republic of the Congo ) and played at Club Saint Michel d'Ouenzé in his hometown of Brazzaville until 2006 .

In 2006 he finally went to Germany with his compatriot and former teammate Francky Sembolo . There they both hired at the then top division club FC Oberneuland in Bremen . In 2008 he completed his first international match for the national soccer team of the Congo and also had an appearance during the DFB Cup 2008/09 .

Eventually, Hallesche FC , then a regional league, became aware of the defender, so Mouaya moved to Saxony-Anhalt in 2009. There he was soon able to assert himself and already completed 26 games in his first season for Halle , in which he also scored a goal. As a result, he developed into a regular player in the Saalestädtern. After several seasons which the HFC completed with a placement in the upper echelons, the 2011/12 season finally made it to the third division . Mouaya was in 28 of 34 games from the start in the promotion season.

In his first third division season, Mouaya had to vacate his regular place at the start of the season, but was able to regain this position after a few match days. On matchday 15, however, he suffered a serious injury when he broke his leg in a duel with Adriano Grimaldi from VfL Osnabrück and had to pause for half a year.

Mouaya did not play any more until the end of the season, but his contract was extended in Halle for the 2013/14 season to give him the opportunity to build on old performances. On January 24, 2014, Mouaya made his comeback in a 3-0 away win at SV Wehen Wiesbaden . From then on he was part of the permanent squad of the Halle residents again. At Halle, Mouaya was a crowd favorite. In the 2014/15 season, Mouaya tore a cruciate ligament on match day 36. In the 2015/16 season he was still in the squad, but did not make any more appearances. After the 2015/16 season, he ended his active career due to persistent health problems.

Even after the end of his career, he remained connected to the HFC. In the summer of 2016, the HFC announced that Mouaya would temporarily replace the sick Dieter Strozniak as team supervisor.

Private

In addition to his footballing career, Mouaya completed an apprenticeship as an insurance salesman , is married and has two children.

Mouaya became a German citizen in February 2014. He lost his Congolese passport as a result.

He has a close friendship with his fellow player Francky Sembolo.
