Giuseppe Baresi (born February 7, 1958 in Travagliato (BS) ) is a former Italian football player and current coach . His brother Franco Baresi was also a soccer player.
Career
In the club
Baresi began his career in 1977 with Inter Milan and played with the Nerazzurri until 1992. In total, he ran 559 times in competitive games for Inter. He was the club's captain for a long time and during this time was twice Italian champion (1980, 1989), twice the Coppa Italia (1978, 1982) and once the Italian Super Cup (1989) and in 1991 the UEFA Cup . From 1992 he played for FC Modena for two years before finally ending his career.
In the national team
Internationally, Giuseppe Baresi played 18 times for Italy , but could never score a goal. Before that he was active in the U-21 of his country from 1977 to 1980 . He made his debut in 1979 and took part in the 1980 European Football Championship in his home country, where he finished fourth with the Italians. At the Soccer World Cup in Mexico in 1986 , he was eliminated with the team in the round of 16 against France .

After the playing career
After having worked for a long time as head of the youth department at Inter Milan, he has been assistant coach under José Mourinho , Rafael Benítez , Leonardo , Claudio Ranieri , Andrea Stramaccioni and now under Walter Mazzarri since the club separated from Roberto Mancini in June 2008 .

Baresi's brother Franco has been a career player at Inters city rivals AC Milan .
