Ovidiu Petre (born March 22, 1982 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player . He played a total of 230 games in the Romanian League 1 , the Turkish Süper Lig and the Saudi Arabian Professional League .

Club career

Petre started his career in 1999 at FC Național Bucharest , where he was also used in his youth. On April 22, 2000 made his debut in Divizia A against Rapid Bucharest , which Rapid won 3-2. In 2003, Petre signed a contract with Galatasaray Istanbul . He made his debut in the Süper Lig against Konyaspor , which they lost 1-0. He switched to Galatasaray for around 700,000 euros. He played 27 games for Galatasaray, scoring 1 goal. In January 2005 he moved back to Romania to FCU Politehnica Timișoara . Timișoara paid around 200,000 euros for him. In total, Petre ran 33 times for Timisoara and scored 5 goals. In 2006 he moved to Steaua Bucharest . Steaua paid around 1.5 million euros for the defensive midfielder. In the summer of 2010, Al-Nasr signed him to Saudi Arabia. After a year, Petre returned to Europe and was hired by the Italian second division club FC Modena . In the summer of 2012 they parted ways again and he was without a club for six months before the then second division ACS Poli Timișoara signed him in January 2013 . With Poli, he rose to League 1 at the end of the 2012/13 season . He and his team had to be relegated immediately at the end of the 2013/14 season . After rising again , he ended his career in the summer of 2015.

Petre played his first international match against Poland in 2002 , which Romania won 2-1.
