Imre Payer , Hungarian and Imre Perényi , (* 1. June 1888 in Sopron , Austria-Hungary , † 1956 ) was a Hungarian football player and coach , who in the 1910s to the root formation of the Hungarian national team was one and the Ferencvárosi TC three championship titles won.

Club career

Imre Payer came from Győr to Budapest in 1910 , where he joined the FTC and, together with Gyula Rumbold, formed one of the strongest defensive pairs of his time. The left defender was able to convince mainly through his physical strength and fighting ability, in addition he had a dreaded shot, which he used especially in free kicks from a greater distance.

In the green-whites he played in a team with Gáspár Borbás , Imre Schlosser , István Tóth-Potya and Zoltán Blum and was able to win the championship title straight away in 1911, which was followed by two more and one cup victory in the following years . From the middle of the decade, the MTK took over the leading role in Hungarian football, so that Payer did not win any more titles.

In 1919, like many Hungarian players at that time, he moved to Vienna and joined the Vienna AC . There he could not convince, however, and came only to two appearances in the championship. In a season review, it was described as one of the biggest disappointments in Viennese football , from whose formerly excellent skills only the oiled mouth was left. Payer returned to Budapest and ended his career with Zuglói AC .

National team

Payer made his debut in the national team in November 1911, when he played as the left runner in a 2-0 win against Austria . However, he soon moved back to the national team in defense, where he also played alongside Rumbold. At the Olympic Games in 1912 he was part of the line-up of Hungarians who won the consolation round after an opening defeat against England .

The last time he came in October 1918 in a 3-0 win against Austria, where he played alongside Károly Fogl and scored two goals from penalties in this game. In total he represented Hungary 21 times internationally and scored four goals.

Coaching career

In 1921 Payer moved to Italy , where he embarked on a coaching career that would last nearly three decades. In the 1920s he was in charge of several top clubs such as Brescia Calcio , SG Andrea Doria , FC Modena and Atalanta Bergamo . He later worked primarily for second and third rate clubs such as Calcio Lecco , US Carrarese and Falck Sesto San Giovanni before ending his career in the early 1950s.
