Mario Genta (born March 1, 1912 in Turin , Italy , † January 9, 1993 in Genoa , Italy) was an Italian football player and coach .
During his active career Genta played defensive midfield , in 1938 he became world champion with Italy .
Career
Mario Genta began his professional career in his hometown with Juventus Turin , where he made his Serie A debut on June 18, 1933 in the 3-2 defeat at CFC Genoa . In 1933/34 he was in the Juve squad , but did not play an official game. Nevertheless, he was able to celebrate winning the Italian championship with the club in both seasons .
After a season at AC Pavia in Serie B , Genta moved to CFC Genoa for the 1935/36 season , where he was under contract until 1946 and was a service provider. The Turinese won the Coppa Italia with this club in his first season .
Although he had never played an international match before, Mario Genta was appointed by national coach Vittorio Pozzo in 1938 to the squad of the Italian national team for the World Cup in France . Although he did not play a game at this tournament, he was still able to celebrate winning the World Cup. Genta made his debut in the Squadra Azzurra on March 26, 1939 in a 3-2 win over Germany in Florence ; after that there was only one more international match.
In 1946 Mario Genta left Genoa for AC Prato , for which he played in Serie B and C until 1950 .
After his playing career, Genta worked as a coach a . a. at AC Parma , CFC Genoa , US Grosseto and Lazio Rome .
