Pietro "Piero" Pasinati (born July 21, 1910 in Trieste , † November 15, 2000 ibid) was an Italian football player and coach .

Pasinati played as a left winger during his active career , was very quick and had a strong shot. Together with his companions Nereo Rocco and Gino Colaussi , he is still one of the greatest football legends in Trieste. In 1938 he became world champion with the Italian national team .

Player career

Piero Pasinati comes from the San Giacomo district of Trieste , from which Nereo Rocco also came. The two future football legends of their city played together at the US Triestina at a young age . Pasinati made his first team debut in the 1927/28 season. During this time he played as the left winger , the position in which he achieved great fame, although during the course of his career he held many game positions and even played in defense . In the following season, Pasinati was a regular at Triestina and quickly became a leading player.

With the US Triestina Piero Pasinati played regularly in Serie A against relegation, which could always be prevented. Nevertheless, he convinced with his performances so that in 1936 he was appointed to the national team for the first time by national coach Vittorio Pozzo , for which he made his debut on April 5, 1936 against Switzerland . After Triestina had reached sixth place in Serie A in the 1937/38 season , Pasinati, along with his teammates Colaussi and Chizzo , was appointed to the Italian squad for the World Cup in France . Pasinati started the tournament as a regular. In the first game, the round of 16 against Norway , he gave Silvio Piola's decisive 2-1 in extra time . Nevertheless, he lost his place to the technically stronger Amedeo Biavati and then played no more games. After beating Hungary 4-2 in the final , Pasinati and his team were able to celebrate winning the world championship title, but did not appear on the official photo of the world champions afterwards, which made him very upset.

After his twelfth season in Trieste, Piero Pasinati moved to AC Milan together with Bruno Chizzo in the summer of 1939 , where he only played for one year. In 1940 he was sold to Novara Calcio , with whom he was relegated to Serie B in the first season . For the 1941/42 season Piero Pasinati went back to US Triestina. Even after the Second World War , at the age of 35, he continued to play for his home club. For the season 1946/47 Pietro Pasinati joined the US Cremonese in the series as 1948/49 he finished his playing career at San Giovanni , a smaller Trieste team in the Series C .

Coaching career

After the end of his active career, Piero Pasinati worked as a coach. He started in 1950 at the lower-class club Ponziana , which he led to Serie C. In 1953 he became assistant coach at "his" US Triestina, and in the middle of the 1956/57 season he replaced the dismissed Severino Feruglio in the coaching chair. Pasinati did not manage to keep his team from relegation to Serie B, after which Triestina never returned to Serie A. Then he trained the FC Catanzaro , the SS Sambenedettese Calcio and the FC Empoli .

After the end of his coaching period, Piero Pasinati worked in his family's glass factory in Trieste until a few months before his death .
