Ugo Locatelli (born February 5, 1916 in Toscolano-Maderno ( BS ), Italy , † May 28, 1993 in Turin , Italy) was an Italian football player .

Locatelli played in the defensive as well as in the left and right midfield, was technically not a particularly good player, but very fast, extremely strong and had a high level of game intelligence.

Career

In the club

Ugo Locatelli began his career at Brescia Calcio , for whom he made his Serie A debut on September 10, 1933 in a 1-0 win against AS Roma . From 1936 to 1941 he played for Inter Milan , with which he won two Italian championships and a Coppa Italia .

In the summer of 1941 Locatelli went to Juventus Turin , but his career there was interrupted by the Second World War. With Juve he was able to win the Coppa Italia in the 1941/42 season. At the end of the 1948/49 season, Ugo Locatelli ended his active career. In Serie A he played a total of 369 games and scored 14 goals.

After finishing his playing career, he stayed with Juventus Turin, first working there for 15 years as a youth coach and then holding the position of technical director for ten years.

In the national team

Ugo Locatelli made his debut in the Italian national team on August 3, 1936, against the USA at the Summer Olympics in Berlin . He played all the games in this tournament and won the gold medal by beating Austria 2-1 in the final .

In the years before the war, Locatelli was a regular in the Squadra Azzurra and won the title at the World Cup in France in 1938 under coach Vittorio Pozzo . The Second World War brought Locatelli's national team career to an abrupt end. On December 1, 1940, he played his last of a total of 22 international matches for Italy in a 1-1 draw against Hungary at the age of just 24.

Together with Alfredo Foni , Sergio Bertoni and Pietro Rava, Ugo Locatelli is one of only four Italians who have been both world and Olympic champions in their careers.
