Aldo Junior Simoncini (born August 30, 1986 in San Marino ) is a football goalkeeper from San Marino .
society
Simoncini began his career in 2004 at FC Modena , but did not get a chance there and moved to AC Rimini after just one season . He also left this again after a year and signed a contract with his hometown club San Marino Calcio . In 2009 the next move to Italy to AC Bellaria Igea Marina was due. After 2 years and 44 league games, he was then signed by Serie A club AC Cesena , where he wore the number 86. However, he was only second goalkeeper behind Francesco Antonioli . In 2012 he moved back to his home country for AC Libertas . In 2018 Simoncini joined league rivals SP Tre Fiori .
National team
He is the goalkeeper of the current San Marino national team . He has played 60 international matches so far.
Special games
He played the EM- 2008 qualifying match against Germany . Despite an unusual training method (in preparation, his goalkeeping coach shot him with tennis balls to get him used to the fast shots of the Germans) he conceded 13 goals and was thus involved in the biggest defeat of the miniature state. It must be mentioned that Simoncini was the victim of a serious traffic accident at the end of 2005 that resulted in several broken bones. At times the young footballer was even in a coma and it was not certain that he would ever be able to play again. Despite all the adversities, the then 19-year-old fought his way back, but was only able to resume training two months before the first leg against Germany.
He was also involved in the 1: 2 against Ireland , in which San Marino only had to accept the decisive goal in the 94th minute - San Marino had equalized in the 90th by Manuel Marani to 1: 1.
On June 2, 2007 he played again against Germany. Germany won 6-0, but only scored the first goal in the 45th minute, as Simoncini thwarted more than ten great chances in the first half.
Simoncini was also part of the team that drew 0-0 against Estonia on November 15, 2014 . This was the first point win in a competitive game since April 25, 2001 .
Private
Aldo Simoncini is a full-time student. His twin brother Davide Simoncini is also a San Marino national soccer player and has played 45 international matches so far. On October 11, 2016 Davide underwent an own goal in the 1: 0 defeat against Norway, in which Aldo was in the gate of San Marino, to give the Norwegians a 1-0 lead.
