Lega Pro Prima Divisione 2011/12 ↓

The 2011/12 season was the 80th season of the Italian Serie B since it was first run in 1929. Sampdoria Genoa , Brescia Calcio and AS Bari were relegated from Serie A. The clubs ASG Nocerina , AS Gubbio 1910 , Hellas Verona and SS Juve Stabia rose from the Lega Pro Prima Divisione last year . As a consequence of the manipulation scandal in Italy in 2011, Ascoli Calcio received a deduction of six points for the new season. Due to financial problems, FC Crotone and Stabia were deducted from a counter.

Pescara Calcio won the Serie B championship for the second time after 1987 and rose to Serie A as champions of the second division. As the second-placed team, FC Turin also achieved direct promotion to the top division. After successful play-offs, Sampdoria Genoa managed to get promoted back to Serie A immediately.

ASG Nocerina and AS Gubbio 1910, both promoted from the Lega Pro Prima Divisione, failed to maintain the league and were relegated straight back to the third-highest division. After nine years in the league, UC AlbinoLeffe also had to accept the relegation to the Lega Pro Prima Divisione. After the play-outs, the traditional club Vicenza Calcio was determined as another relegated to the third division. In the course of the Italian manipulation scandal, first division relegated US Lecce and US Grosseto were sentenced to relegation to the Lega Pro Prima Divisione, whereupon Vicenza and Nocerina remain in the second division.

Ciro Immobile from second division champions Pescara Calcio was the top scorer this season with 28 goals.

Play-off for promotion

Semifinals:

In the event of a tie after both games, the team better placed in the table will advance.

Final:

So Sampdoria Genoa was confirmed as the third climber and followed Pescara Calcio and Torino in Serie A. The rise was achieved after only a year absence from the first Italian football league.

Play-out against relegation

This means that the traditional club Vicenza Calcio has to compete in the Lega Pro Prima Divisione for the first time since 1993. They were the fourth relegated team after UC AlbinoLeffe , AS Gubbio 1910 and ASG Nocerina , although they were very close to relegation in the relegation second leg when Vicenza led 2-0 in Empoli in the middle of the second half. In the further course of the game Vicenza got three goals and had to relegate. After the forced relegation of Lecce and Grosseto, Vicenza remained like the third from last ASG Nocerina in Serie B. However, since Grosseto appealed against the forced relegation and was also successful, the ASG Nocerina had to go into the third division, while Vicenza Calcio remained second rate.

In the event of a tie after both games, the team better placed in the table will advance.
