Gelatine Manufacturers of Europe (GME) is an interest group for European gelatine and collagen hydrolyzate manufacturers and was founded in 1974.

structure

The eleven largest European gelatine and collagen peptide manufacturers are organized in the GME, covering around 95% of European and 38% of global production. As an interface between its members and the various European authorities, the GME has its headquarters in Brussels . GME operates across Europe and maintains a network of international contacts and partnerships, such as with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Currently (2018) Greet Hombroux is president of the association and Marc Vermeulen is general secretary.

Members

The association has eleven members, including three German, two Italian, three Dutch and one each of French, Spanish and Belgian companies: Ewald Gelatine, Gelita and Reinert Gruppe Ingredients from Germany, Lapi Gelatine and Italgelatine from Italy, Rousselot, Jellice and Trobas Gelatine from the Netherlands, Gelatines Weishardt from France, PB Gelatins from Belgium and Juncá Gelatines from Spain.

aims

The aim of the GME is to further develop the gelatine and collagen hydrolyzate products and to open up new markets. The GME is active in four permanent working committees. In these working committees the GME pursues the assurance of constant quality of the gelatine. Research and further development of technical standards, commitment to new legal framework conditions for the gelatine industry and the creation of transparency are the cornerstones of the activities. An instrument for maintaining uniform quality standards is the gelatine monograph developed by GME, in which analytical methods are defined. The GME also works with international institutions such as the FAO and the WHO to set global standards . The GME is recognized as a responsible partner by European and international public offices.
