The 1998/99 season of Serie B started on September 6, 1998 and ended on June 13, 1999. SSC Napoli rose to Serie B after more than 30 years in the top division. While Hellas Verona rose back to Serie A after two years, Reggina Calcio was able to qualify for the first time for the top Italian division. Of the four promoters, only US Cremonese had to relegate. The top scorer was Marco Ferrante from FC Turin with 26 goals this season.
