Series B 1997/98

The Series B in 1997/98 was the 66th season of the second highest Italian soccer league since its prototyping 1929. As relegated from Serie A came of Cagliari Calcio , the AC Perugia , Hellas Verona and AC Reggiana to the championship added. The field of participants consisting of a total of twenty teams completed twelve teams from Serie B 1996/97 as well as the four newly promoted Fidelis Andria , FBC Treviso , AC Ancona and AC Monza Brianza .

The season began on August 31, 1997 and ended on June 14, 1998 with the last game day. Salernitana Sport , AC Venice and Cagliari Calcio secured direct promotion to Serie A in 1998/99 . In a playoff game against Torino Calcio , AC Perugia reached fourth place.

Attendees

A total of 20 teams took part in the 1997/98 season. Twelve of them already played last season in the Serie B while the remaining eight participants by climbing out of the Serie C1 or as of relegation from the Serie A were added.

Playoffs

The AC Perugia and Torino Calcio played the fourth promoted to Serie A in 1998/99 due to a tie .

Perugia followed the already promoted Salernitana Sport, AC Venice and Cagliari Calcio into the first division and returned to this after only one year of abstinence.
