Giancarlo Camolese (born February 25, 1961 in Turin ) is a former Italian football player and current coach .
Player career
Camolese began playing football at Unione Sportiva in his hometown of San Mauro Torinese . From here he came to AC Turin at the age of 13 , where he was part of the professional squad in the 1978/79 season, but was not used in the league. The midfielder then worked in Biella , Reggio Calabria , Alessandria , Rome , Padua , Vicenza and Taranto before ending his career in Savigliano . There he also started as a youth coach.
Coaching career
At AC Turin he succeeded Luigi Simoni in the 2000/01 season and ended the season as champions of Serie B with promotion to the top division . Here he led Turin in eleventh place and in the UI Cup the following season . After four opening defeats in the 2002/03 season, he was released here in October 2002.
In the 2003/04 season Camolese was appointed as the successor to Franco Colomba to coach Reggina Calcio . He saved the team from relegation from Serie A, but his contract was not extended.
In 2005 he took over as coach in Serie B at Vicenza , the team whose captain he had been in the third division season 1990/91. This team also saved Camolese, only on the last match day, from relegation.
In the 2006/07 season he had to vacate his job for Angelo Gregucci after a disastrous start to the season with only one point from five games .
On October 10, 2007 he signed the then bottom of the Serie A table, AS Livorno , as the successor to Fernando Orsi . When Livorno slipped back to the bottom of the table on matchday 35 of this season, Camolese was dismissed and replaced by his predecessor Orsi.
On March 24, 2009 he was appointed head coach of Turin FC as the successor to the dismissed Walter Novellino . After only three months and relegation to Serie B , he was removed from office and replaced by Stefano Colantuono .
