Fernando Orsi (born September 12, 1959 in Rome ) is a former Italian football player and current coach .

Player career

Fernando Orsi began his career as a goalkeeper at his hometown club AS Roma , where he was not used in his first season 1978/79 in the professional team. He made his professional debut in the following season at AC Siena in Serie C 2. After a season at Siena, he went to AC Parma , where he played regularly until his move in 1982. Orsi did not play his first Serie A game until 1982 with Lazio Rome , for which he played from 1982 to 1985 and as a substitute keeper from 1989 until his retirement in 1998. Most competitive games (125), however, he played for AC Arezzo , where he played from 1985 to 1989.

Coaching career

Orsi's coaching career began in 2002, when he became assistant coach at Lazio Rome alongside Roberto Mancini . When Mancini went to Inter Milan two years later , Orsi also came to Inter as an assistant coach. After four years as assistant coach , Orsi left Inter in 2006 to prepare for his career as head coach. There were rumors that he was taking over as coach at AC Arezzo . Somewhat surprisingly, Orsi finally coached a Serie A team, AS Livorno , with whom he signed a contract until summer 2008. He replaced Daniele Arrigoni , who was fired from Livorno for the second time in a few months after a 4-0 defeat at Udinese Calcio . Orsi's debut started promisingly with his team's 4-1 win over Catania Calcio . Orsi finally reached the minimum goal set by the presidium, relegation, at the end of the season . In the 2007/08 season, his team could only reach two draws in the first seven games of the season, so that Orsi was dismissed on October 9, 2007 and replaced by Giancarlo Camolese . After Livorno had slipped back to last place on the 35th matchday of the 2007/08 season, Livorno changed coaches again and Orsi replaced his successor on an interim basis until the end of the season. Orsi could not prevent relegation in the remaining three games, so his contract was not extended.
