The Stadio del Conero is a football stadium in the Italian port city of Ancona , Marche region . Before that, the city soccer teams used the Stadio Dorico from 1931. Today the soccer club US Ancona plays its home games here in 1905 .

history

The Stadio del Conero was completed in 1992 and opened on December 6th of that year with a Serie A game on matchday 12 between the then AC Ancona and Inter Milan  (3-0). Hungarian midfielder Lajos Détári scored the first goal in the stadium . Although they beat Inter, who were runner-up in the end, but the promoted team had to relegate again after one season. In 2003, the short tournament Trofeo TIM took place with Inter Milan, Juventus Turin and AC Milan . Pope John Paul II visited the stadium twice . It offers 23,976 seats. For security reasons, it is currently approved for a maximum of 14,295 visitors. The stadium stands are embedded in the earthquake. With the exception of a small roof on the main stand, the seats are in the open air.

International matches

So far, the Squadra Azzurra has played three international matches at the Stadio del Conero. The men's U-21s also had a few encounters here.
