Darío Silva (born November 2, 1972 in Treinta y Tres ; full name Debray Darío Silva Pereira ) is a former Uruguayan football player who played as a striker.

Career

society

His career began in 1991 at Club Atlético Yerbalense in Treinta y Tres before moving to Defensor Sporting in 1992 . From here he moved to Peñarol in the following year and played there for three years. In 1994 he secured the top scorer's crown in the Uruguayan Primera División with 19 goals . In addition, he celebrated winning the Uruguayan championship in all three years of his association with the club. Then scouts from Cagliari noticed him and brought him to Italy . After a few failures, he returned to Peñarol before moving to Espanyol Barcelona after just six months and was sold to Málaga FC after one season . After that, however, the reputation of "Sa pibinca" as a lanky, but goal-scoring striker in Spain consolidated . The football legionnaire, who kept changing clubs after many disputes with the managers of various clubs, then played extremely successfully at Sevilla FC in the 2003/2004 season , where he prepared many goals, scored eight himself and, with Júlio Baptista, formed one of the strongest offensive campaigns . After two seasons he moved to Portsmouth to end his football career. There he dissolved his contract after four months due to unsatisfactory performance (15 games / 3 goals).

National team

Silva took part with the Uruguayan U-20 selection at the U-20 South American Championship in 1991 and finished third with the team. During the tournament he was used by coach Juan José Duarte six times (two goals). In the same year he played with the Celeste in the Junior World Cup in 1991 , but with the team he was eliminated in the group stage. Silva also played for the Uruguayan senior team . For this, Silva played from his debut on October 19, 1994 until his last appearance on November 12, 2005, a total of 49 international matches and scored 14 goals. With Celeste he took part in the 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup , the 2002 World Cup and the 2004 Copa America .

successes

  • 3 × Uruguayan champions (1993, 1994 and 1995)

car accident

On September 24, 2006 Darío Silva, who was accompanied by two other ex-national players, lost control of his car at Montevideo and collided with a lamp. Silva, who was not wearing a seat belt, flew through the window pane against the lantern, which then fell on him. He suffered an open lower leg fracture on his right leg. Silva was seriously injured. Since the wound became infected and no progress was seen after a six-hour operation, the medical team decided to amputate the lower leg to avoid life-threatening complications. Ten days after the accident, he was able to leave the clinic.
