The Stadio San Francesco d'Assisi is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Italian town of Nocera Inferiore in the province of Salerno in the Campania region . The sports facility is mainly used by the ASG Nocerina football club . Originally the facility was named Stadio Comunale Nocera Inferiore ; was then renamed Stadio San Francesco d'Assisi in honor of Francis of Assisi . At the end of the 1970s, the stadium held around 15,000 visitors; Today it still offers 6,852 seats, making it one of the smallest stadiums in the B series .
How often to be found in Italy; the stadium is owned by the city and the field is surrounded by a tartan track. The sports facility has the shape of a horseshoe ; which is formed from the main grandstand, the south curve and the back straight. The grandstand built later in the north curve is separate and has no connection to the other stands. After opening in 1973, the stadium was expanded in 1978, following the rise of AG Nocerina in the 1978/79 season to Serie B. The visitor record of 15,000 spectators at the league game AG Nocerina against CFC Genoa in 1979 also dates from this time. The main stand was roofed in 1986; Furthermore, the cinder track was replaced by a plastic track made of tartan . In 2000 the sports facility was equipped with a floodlight system. The north stand was built in 2006; in addition, the athletics facility was renewed.
In 1992 Pope John Paul II visited the city of Nocera Inferiore and was a guest at the stadium.
