Tobias Willi (born December 14, 1979 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a former German soccer player . He grew up in the wine- growing community of Pfaffenweiler near Freiburg, and Willi passed his Abitur at the Faust high school in Staufen im Breisgau .

Career

Willi began his career as a professional soccer player at SC Freiburg in 1998 and was a regular player at SC in the first Bundesliga at an early age . At the same time, he turned down an offer from FC Bayern Munich .

After the relegation of SC Freiburg from the first division, he lost his regular place, so that he moved to SV Austria Salzburg in early 2005 . After only six months Willi signed for the 2005/06 season with newly promoted Bundesliga club MSV Duisburg . Willi played a total of 76 times for the "Zebras" and was relegated to the club, and finally back to the 2nd division at the end of the 2007/08 season. Willi was the crowd favorite in Duisburg (as in Freiburg). As soon as he touched the ball, a long drawn out "Williiii" echoed through the Duisburg Arena. In Freiburg, his surname and the large number of players from Georgia (whose surnames all ended with -vili) gave the fans the inspiration to add a loud "- willi" to all player names when reading out the team roster at the start of the game.

End of career

Tobias Willi, who played 15 times for the German U21 national team, ended his career on April 1, 2010. After injuries to both knees and right ankle, he was disabled. From July 1, 2010, Willi trained as a sports and marketing manager at MSV Duisburg. On the side he started studying.
