ʿUmar al-Ghamdi ( Arabic عمر الغامدي, DMG ʿUmar al-Ġāmdī , according to the English transcription Omar Al-Ghamdi ; * April 11, 1979 in Mecca ) is a former Saudi Arabian soccer player . He won the Saudi Arabian championship five times and took part in the 2006 World Cup.

Career

Although al-Ghamdi comes from the youth of the top club al-Ittihad , he moved to the capital club al-Hilal at the age of 21 . The greatest international success at club level for him was winning the Asian Cup Winners' Cup in 2002. There were also four national championships and seven cup wins.

From 2000 to 2008, the flexible defensive midfielder was also part of the Saudi Arabian national team . Omar al-Ghamdi was regularly deployed there and was also part of Saudi Arabia's World Cup squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. It was his second World Cup, having played in all three games in his country in 2002.

In 2010 al-Ghamdi left al-Hilal and switched to league rival al-Shabab . There he won his fifth championship title in 2012. He ended his career in 2015.
