Gallions Reach (DLR)
Gallions Reach is a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station in the London Borough of Newham . It is in the Travelcard tariff zone 3 on Royal Docks Road in the Beckton district . A little further north, a track branches off that leads to one of the two DLR depots .
The station was opened on March 28, 1994, along with the branch line towards Beckton . During the heyday of Docklands, there was a train station called Manor Way at almost the same location . It was built in July 1881 by the Eastern Counties and Thames Junction Railway , was moved a few dozen meters to a new location in 1886 and had to be closed on September 8, 1940 due to irreparable bomb damage on the line.
In the medium term, a new route along the Thames is to lead from Gallions Reach to Dagenham Dock station . The aim is to develop the former industrial site Barking Reach , which will be converted into a new residential and business area. The opening was originally planned for 2017, but the project has since been postponed.
