Gonzalo Sorondo Amaro (born October 9, 1979 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player .

society

The center-back started his Defensor Sporting career in 1997 . In 2001 he moved to Serie A for Inter Milan . In the 2003/04 season he played for Standard Liège . Sorondo has played 20 games (no goal) in the 2004/05 season at Crystal Palace in the English Premier League . In the two following seasons he joined Charlton Athletic and came to eight first division appearances (no goal). For Clausura and Apertura 2007 he moved back to the Uruguayan Primera División to Defensor Sporting. In the same year he left his home country again, this time to join the Brazilian club SC Internacional . With the Brazilians he celebrated the greatest success of his career so far when he won the Copa Libertadores with his club in 2010 . In the course of this competition he also managed a goal in the quarter-finals against the Argentine team Estudiantes de La Plata . During his time at SCI, Sorondo has made at least 48 appearances in Serie A and Gaucho 1 (Serie A: 32 games, four goals; Gaucho 1:16 games, two goals). At the end of 2011, Sorondo moved to Grêmio Porto Alegre , and in January 2013 he then joined Defensor Sporting . Without having played a league game there, he is led to Apertura 2013 with the Montevideans as a departure.

National team

Sorondo played in the U-20 national team of Uruguay and was with this vice-South American champion at the U-20 South American Championship in Argentina in 1999 . He also took part in the 1999 Junior World Cup in Nigeria . In the Uruguayan U-23 selection, he played in seven international matches (no goal) at the "Torneo Preolímpico" in Brazil in 2000. Sorondo was also a member of the Uruguayan senior team and made 27 international matches (no goal) from his debut on August 15, 2000 to his last appearance on August 17, 2005. He was part of the 2001 Copa America squad and played five tournament games. He also competed with Celeste at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea . During the tournament he came to three missions.
